Check out these shelf barrels – your barrel may already be made!
Rifling method Our cut rifled “Border” barrels are rifled on our Pratt & Whitney rifling machines in our cut rifling barrel shop.
Calibres We are currently able to cut rifle barrels in the following calibres:
.22 rimfire, .224 centerfire, .243 (6mm), .264 (6.5mm), .270, .284 (7mm), .30 cals., .32, 8mm, .338, .355 (9mm), .357, .38, 9.3mm, .375, .416, .450, .500, .505, .600.
Twist Cut rifled barrels can be rifled with any twist from 6.5″ up to infinity.
Number of grooves We have index plates for 4, 5 and 6 grooves. Generally, barrels have six grooves, except for the 30 calibres where 4 grooves is usual. We also have the ability to do 8 and 10 grooves on special request.
“5R” rifling Customers now have the choice of having barrels rifled with the “5R” rifling form, made famous by “Boots” Obermeyer. There will be a £6 surcharge for barrels with the “5R” rifling form.
Barrel contours and dimensions We have a fairly comprehensive list of standard barrel contours. If you require a non standard contour, or you require a modification to any of our standard contours, there may be a setup charge of £65 for the first barrel. This charge reflects the time required to program the CNC contouring lathe for your specific requirement. However, all subsequent barrels will be charged at the standard rate.
For finished barrel lengths greater than 30″ (762mm) there will be a surcharge of £20 per inch (25mm). The maximum length of barrel we can make is 42″ (1067mm), but this is dependent on the tooling available for any particular calibre.
Our normal barrel steel has a diameter of 34mm, but we can obtain steels to make barrels of larger diameter if required.
Barrel steel Archer barrels can be made in type 416R stainless, or in chrome moly steel. The hardness range will be 26 to 30 Rockwell ‘C’.

Test barrels We are the principal manufacturer of pressure, velocity and accuracy test barrels for Royal Ordnance, and we make test barrels for ammunition and powder manufacturers the world over, including PB Clermont in France, CBC Magtec in Brazil and Nammo in Sweden.
“Chopper lump” barrels We are now able to make barrels for double rifles. These barrels are made from forgings having a “lump” at one end which can be machined for left or right hand barrels. The forgings are fully relieved to ensure that they do not move during the machining process and the barrels remain straight. We are also able to contour these barrels to the customer’s specification or drawing. These barrel are undoubtedly the best double rifle barrels available in the world today in terms of rifling quality, material quality and material dimensional stability. These barrels are available in all the common big-game calibres.
Drop in barrels We manufacture a range of ready proofed drop-in barrels in .22LR for the Anschutz target rifles (1400, 1800, 1900 and 2000 series), Walther target rifles (GX1 and KK200) and the Ruger 10/22. We also made drop in barrels for the Sauer rifle ‘medium’ calibres. The price for drop in barrels is as per the “Threaded and chambered” price above.
Export requirements We are required to obtain an export licence for all barrls exported outside the United Kingdom. If you are outside the EU, we require a copy of your valid import licence in order to obtain an export licence. All importers outside the UK (including importers in the EU) will need to fill in an End User Undertaking form. If you are the end user who will actually be using the barrel(s) use this form which can be downloaded from our website. If you intend to stock the barrel(s) for sale to customers in the future, use this form which can be downloaded from our website. It can take up to 28 days for us to obtain our export licence. Quite often, we find that the delivery time of our barrels is dependent on how long it takes to get the necessary paperwork in place. It is therefore imperative that you act quickly to send us the necessary documents.
The End User Undertaking form is not easy to understand, even if English is your first language, so we will be happy to email you a form already filled in for your order. All you will have to do is print it, sign it where indicated and sent it back to us.
